Fresh new take on supernatural young adult romance to be presented at BookExpo America
New York, NY: A steady stream of supernatural teen romances hit the shelves in the wake of Twilight's success, but Hex, a Witch and Angel Tale offers something refreshingly different.
Like most girls at Rosemound High, seventeen year old Lily Crane is acutely aware of Ryder, the cutest guy in school who, sadly, is untouchable, especially for her. For when Lily touches someone, she learns all about their lives: a good skill on paper but which in reality, makes her a social pariah.
Even so, Lily becomes the love interest of two students: Ryder and newcomer Lucian Bell. Under the pressure of her gift, handling the unfamiliar attentions is an impossible task, particularly given Ryder and Lucian's behavior. The two act as if they know each other from a distant past, one which Lily suspects is full of terrible secrets. And certain secrets could even get a girl killed.
Hex is inspired by the stories Wray heard from her grandparents in Romania. "They were a couple of fantastic storytellers who filled my childhood with magic and stories about witches (vrajitoare), vampires (vampiri), fairies (iele or zane) and so much more," she says. "I grew up with a strong sense of the supernatural."
While providing plenty of chills, the novel also tells a story of discovery and empowerment. Lily's strength of character in navigating the winding paths of adolescence recommends her as an inspiring heroine for every young woman seeking acceptance. Above all, Hex brings innovation to a genre that, it turns out, is not always predictable after all. Brooding vampires may never lose their appeal, but it's enjoyable to see killer half-angels and reincarnated medieval lovers at high school too.
