Issue XVII. March, 2003 New Features at Substance New Book Category: BOOKS FOR YOUNG ADULTS Visit Other Related Categories! New "Buy now!" buttons New testimonials New slide show by: Hajni Blasko / Book Promoter Webrings are communities of websites, united by a common interest and organized into a circular "ring" of mutual links. Webrings managed by "WebRing" or any other company permit you to go from site to site, to travel the entire webring. Links also permit you to access the list of member sites and to join the webring. This type of promotional exposure is "Targeted Marketing" since you will introduce yourself to a group of people already focused and interested in the subject matter of your book or services. Webrings will bring you traffic from your listing on the HUB page (homepage of the ring) and bring you traffic from the "ring flow". Receiving traffic from your listing on the HUB page All webring providers feature a directory on their sites. These directories are well constructed and usually easy to navigate pools of sites and individuals around the same subject matter. You can search around the directories to locate the webrings of your interest by: - Date created - Size (number of member sites) - Alphabetical - Popularity (number of visits) Your book's short description and a well functioning link to your site placed on a popular and large webring HUB page is already a winning tool. You will need to do nothing else then join your selected ring and wait for the ringmaster's approval. How can you ensure that your application will be approved? verify that your site is relevant to the ring and insert the appropriate navigation code (SSNB) onto your site. You can get away with not complying to these rules, but ringmasters using "Automanagement" will screen you out. Receiving traffic from the "ring flow" All Webrings have a specific banner sized navigation bar created by the webring master. This navigation bar connects the sites of the ring as creating a virtual doorway between them. If your site doesn't include this navigation code, the flow of traffic will be shut down and you will not receive traffic from other participating sites. If your site doesn't have a banner (SSNB) it is as good as a dead-end highway. I have prepared a check-list for easy and prosperous webring membership.
Just so you know I don't just preach but also drink the wine??? Substance has created and taken over a whole network of WebRings. It is called "Substance WebRing Network". At the moment, we manage 26 rings. This means you, as a member, can join all of these rings and you will receive all the technical help you need and for sure you will be approved since I am the one managing them. Even if you decide to only join one as a starter, I would recommend "Book Promotion & Publicity". It is the 32nd biggest group under the Books & Writing category. It is my goal to bring this webring to the highlight spot and have it featured amongst the top 20 listing (opening page). If you are not a "WebRing" member yet, come and join us. If you are a member, but don't have navigation code on your site yet, I can e-mail it to you, just ask me. Rings managed by the Substance WebRing Network:
Contact Hajni! (your delusional WebPromoter) Frequently asked questions about webrings Q My Web site is hosted on a free server (tripod, geocities). Can I still consider Webrings? A Yes, we have a few members with free servers and they are members of many different rings. Q I have a Webmaster maintaining my site. I will have to pay for the insertion of the navigation code. How much time does it take to insert this code? A If you are paying a monthly fee for Webmastering included or separate from your hosting fee; since insertion of a navigation code is part of regular webpromotional maintenance, you should never be charged for it. The actual insertion, even with possible rearangement and uploading time, shouldn't be more than 15 minutes. Q My Webmaster is asking a minimum of 1 hour flat free for insertion of the navigation code. Should I do it? A Nooo! It is not worth it (I mean keeping a webmaster like that). Forget webrings for now and we must talk! Q I am already a member of a webring, but next to my listing I have one of the following icons A You are missing or have a faulty navigation code. You must contact your ringmaster immediately to correct the situation. Q I don't have the time to get involved with webrings, but I wouldn't mind helping our Network to achieve a better popularity rating. What can I do do? A (Oh, I am glad you asked) Please come and visit any of our webrings. Every visit will rase the profile of the ring and it will be recorded in the directory.
